Now is time to start planning for your winter vacation in Vail, not sure where to stay? This guide will help you make a decision.

Vail Village

The heart of it all, Vail Village is where it all began and where most of it happens these days. Staying in the village is the best spot hands down. Centralized for walking everywhere, access to the mountain, and all the shops and restaurants at your doorstep. However, you will find mostly condos here, there are very little houses to choose from.

Lionshead

Here you will find the second major village located in Vail. Just a short walk or a free bus ride from Vail Village, Lionshead has quickly become a bustling area for locals and visitors alike. Think of this as a mini Vail Village, still within walking access to the Gondola and a handful of restaurants and shops. Lionshead is also home to more condos than houses.

Golden Peak

A quieter alternative to Vail Village but still at the base of Vail Mountain. Golden Peak is home to the Riva Bahn Chair Lift, Ski School, the terrain park, and the racecourse. This is a great area for anyone who is a beginner or entering into ski and ride school. Golden Peak is also home to the US Burton Open, be front and center for all of the action. There will be more of a mix of condos and houses here.

East Vail/Golf Course

The East Vail area of Vail is home too many locals, located a few miles east of town. Here you will find large yet quiet houses in great little neighborhoods. The free Town of Vail bus is your best friend here, running every 15 minutes back and forth to the village. The Golf Course area is a couple of miles closer to town but with the same layout.

West Vail

The West Vail area can be divided into two sections, North and South. West Vail North has a neighborhood feel close to the grocery stores and a few casual restaurants. The Southern side is home to beautiful houses running along Gore Creek. Both areas are very quiet and serviced by the free Town of Vail bus getting guests to the slopes in about 10 minutes.

Potato Patch/Sandstone

The Potato Patch and Sandstone areas are located directly North of Vail offering exceptional views of the mountain. Here you will find a collection of more modest houses and condos, perfect for families or groups of friends. The free bus also makes rounds up to these areas getting you to and from the mountain in 10-15 minutes.
