What to Bring to Vail
Layers
Vail sits at 8,150 feet. Winter mornings can be well below freezing on the mountain, and summer evenings cool off fast. A base layer and a light shell earn their place in your bag year-round.
High-SPF Sunscreen
The UV index at altitude is significantly higher than at sea level. Bring SPF 50 or above whether you're skiing groomers in January or hiking in July — the sun reflects off snow and open trails alike.
A Reusable Water Bottle
Altitude dehydrates you faster than you'd expect, in any season. Drink more water than usual, starting the day before you arrive. Most homes have filtered water on tap.
Altitude Medication
If you're coming from sea level, ask your doctor about acetazolamide before the trip. Headaches and fatigue are common on the first day at 8,000+ feet, summer or winter.
A Valid Driver's License
You won't need a car in the village, but having one opens up the back valley, Beaver Creek, and the restaurants and trailheads along Highway 6.
The Right Gear for the Season
Winter: boots, helmet, and goggles. Summer: trail shoes, a daypack, and a rain layer for afternoon storms. Rentals are available in the village if you'd rather travel light.

We had an excellent stay at the Sun Vail condos and would absolutely recommend this property. The location was ideal—an easy walk to Lionshead Village and a quick drive to Vail Village—making it very convenient for restaurants, shopping and activities throughout the area.
The condo was comfortable, well equipped and had everything we needed to make it feel like home. It was a great place to relax and recharge after busy days exploring Vail and the surrounding area. The pool, hot tubs and sauna were especially enjoyable and provided the perfect break between hikes and other activities.
Overall, the property offered an excellent combination of location, comfort and amenities. We had a five-star experience and would happily stay here again.
