If you were dreaming of a White Christmas in Vail this year, you were in luck. A series of storms blanketed the state over the Christmas holiday, delivering more snow to Vail's already impressive totals for this season, and prompting the opening of the entire mountain, all 5,289 acres of terrain, and all lifts.

The new openings makes Vail the resort with the most skiable terrain currently open in Colorado.

“It has been a legendary start to the season, with the second-earliest opening for Blue Sky Basin in history, to offering all 5,289 skiable acres before the New Year,” said Doug Lovell, Vail chief operating officer. “With excellent early season snow conditions, this has been the strongest start to the season in decades, thanks to the hard work of our mountain operations teams and a little help from Mother Nature.”

Watch as ski instructors and Vail locals form a glowing train as they ski down Golden Peak with glowing sticks followed by a fireworks display. Festivities start at 6:15 p.m.
