Vail Grail winter race series gets underway Jan. 19

The Vail Nordic 5K Citizens Race takes place on Jan. 19, kicking off the 2019 Bloch & Chapleau Vail Grail Winter Race Series.

The race takes place at noon at Maloit Park in the Town of Minturn, immediately following the Battle Mountain High School Nordic race. There will be categories for men's and women's skate and classic ski. Cost is $25 preregistered or $35 day-of for adults and $15 preregistered or $25 day-of for students.
An after-party will take place in Minturn with lunch included, hosted by the Town of Minturn. Beer will be provided by the Vail Brewing Company. There will be prizes for top finishers and raffle tickets for all participants courtesy of our sponsors HWK Ski Wax, 808 Distillery and Alpine Wine and Spirits. Additional race sponsors include the Town of Minturn, Vail Brewing Company and PCL Construction.
Next in the annual winter race series, get out your winter bike and join in the Vail Derail Winter Bike Race on Sat, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Vail Nordic Center. After that, snowshoe, skin, spike, hike or Yaktrax up Vail Mountain during the annual Vail Athletic Club Vail Mountain Winter Uphill Race & Hike on Sun, Feb. 17 at 7 a.m. in Lionshead. Finally, get in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day with snowshoes or Yaktrax at the Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run on Sat, March 9 at 4 p.m.
Sign up for individual events or the whole series! All Vail Grail events will conclude with an after-party, awards ceremony and raffle for race participants. Competing in all four races gives you a shot at winning the coveted Vail Grail, a permanent trophy that will bear the male and female division winners' names for years to come.
