Fly Fishing World Championships competition begins Sept. 14 near Vail

International teams have arrived and can be seen in the Vail area fishing and enjoying the towns. Cooler mornings have started and the rivers have been providing exceptional action. The time has come for a world championship!

Come cheer on Team USA at the biggest event in the world of competitive fly fishing, the World Fly Fishing Championshps. Practice starts Sept. 12, competition starts Sept. 14

The FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship will return to the United States after 19 years from September 11-18, 2016. Anglers from over 30 countries will fish the free flowing rivers and majestic lakes of Eagle County.

The 36th annual competition will take place on the Eagle River, the Colorado River and Sylvan Lake in Eagle County starting on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
 
Fishing venues are divided into 5 sectors where each angler fishes for 3 hours over 5 sessions. During Bring a camera and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Colorado and watch true masters of the fly rod in action.

The medal ceremony will be held in Vail Village. Watch team and individual medals awarded while national anthems are played and nation’s flags are raised. Cheer alongside all the competitors as the medals and trophies are held high.

All world championships have symbols representing the spirit of competition like the Olympic Torch or the Stanley Cup. The FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship has its "Sacred Scroll," which promotes clean water, healthy living and good sportsmanship. From Vail Closing speeches will be made and the ‘Sacred Scroll’ will be passed to the next host nation.be on these beautiful water ways on the competition days. There are several locations that are private and not available for previewing or access, other than on the competition days.
